General FAQ’s

Where is Stehekin located and how do I get there?

The most common method of getting to Stehekin is to take one of the Lady of the Lake passenger boats from the town of Chelan. The Lady Express boat takes approximately 2 hours, and costs $59 roundtrip to Stehekin. The Lady II boat takes approximately 4 hours, and costs $39 roundtrip. Click here for the full schedule.

You can also take a seaplane from Chelan Seaplanes, charter a boat, or travel the lake in your own private boat. In the summer, another option is to hike or ride your stock in on one of the many trails leading here. There are a few private pilots that also bring their planes into the Stehekin airstrip. For transportation maps and directions, click here.

Is there TV/phone/internet at the Resort?

Satellite TV is now available at Stehekin Landing Resort. TV is only available in the Recreation Building. There are no satellite connections or televisions in any of the rooms, but you may bring your own personal video equipment if you wish.

There is no cell phone service in Stehekin, and you will be out of range for using your own. There is a community satellite pay phone located near the boat dock for people to call out of the valley on if they need to. A calling card is required to make a call on this phone. It’s important to remember that people cannot call into this number. If a person needs to get a message to you from outside the valley they can contact our office and we will deliver a message to you. We encourage this only with urgent matters as most people come to Stehekin to get away from their every day worries.

Wireless internet access is available throughout the Resort complex as a courtesy service for our guests. You may log onto this system with your personal laptop. If you do not have a laptop, but would still like to check your email or otherwise access the internet, there is one public computer located in our Recreation Building. Please be courteous to other guests, and share this computer as needed.

Can I buy groceries in Stehekin?

Yes and No. Stehekin Landing Resort operates a small convenience store which carries an extremely limited supply of grocery items. What we carry is mostly stuff that people often forget. If you are going to be staying in one of our kitchen units, or another cabin in the valley, we highly recommend you bring your supplies with you, as we cannot guarantee that we will have everything you need.

When is check-in and check-out?

Check-in time at the Resort is 2:00 pm. Early check-in may be possible, but cannot be guaranteed.

Check-out time is 10:30 am. We are forced to be rather strict on this, as we need time to prepare the rooms for incoming guests on the boat.

What do I do with my luggage?

Due to the boat schedule, it may be necessary to store your luggage prior to check-in, or after you check out. The Resort has a covered luggage area located below the Restaurant deck. You may use this area to store your bags, just be sure to take them to the boat and put them next to the appropriate destination sign (ie. Lady Express Chelan, or Lady II Fields Point, etc.) before boarding the boat.

How do I pay for things in Stehekin?

While Stehekin Landing Resort accepts MasterCard or Visa, many businesses in the valley prefer to have payments made with cash or a check. This is due to the expensive set up and processing of credit cards from such a remote area. Be sure to bring a little cash with you to spend at the Bakery and the gift shops! Also, if you need to ride the Stehekin Shuttle, it’s good to have some spare change. There is NO ATM in Stehekin.

What is the cancellation policy at the Resort?

Payment in full is required to make a reservation at the resort, but you can get a full refund with enough notice. 14 days notice is required for all sleeping units, and 30 days notice is required for kitchen units.

How’s the weather?

In the springtime we usually experience some windy conditions and the mornings and evenings are still cool with the days warming up to 50-70 degrees. Summer is very comfortable for most – late July and August start to get warm (80 and 90 degrees is normal) and is when most people enjoy having the river and the lake to play in. Fall is traditionally magical with its crisp, clear days and then cold mornings and evenings. Winter finds the valley with an average snow level of 4-6 feet and can drop to below zero temperatures. We recommend you keep all weather conditions in mind no matter what time of year. Don’t be shy about asking for weather up dates- although we can’t predict the weather we can sure tell you how it’s been lately. Though it’s rare, we have even experienced snow conditions in summer- especially in the higher elevations.

If you are traveling by private boat to Stehekin and are unaware of the moody winds of Lake Chelan, then we highly recommend being prepared to pull in to a safe harbor should you need to in case of high winds or a break down. Have some food, shelter options, sleeping bags and any medications just in case. It’s a good idea to have a flare or something bright to get the attention of the passenger boat or the seaplane in case you are in any trouble also.
