Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing

The sport of snowshoeing is as accessible as your own backyard. There are no special skills required to start out. Snowshoeing is an ideal low impact aerobic exercise that can be taken up by anyone, and pursued for a lifetime of outdoor winter enjoyment. It puts you into the heart of the great outdoors without a lot of fancy equipment, special clothing, or expensive lift tickets.

Stehekin offers endless miles of deep snow-covered forest to explore. It’s not uncommon to stand on 8-10 feet of snow. Because of the secluded nature of the Stehekin Valley, it makes the perfect spot for a snowshoe adventure. The snow really starts to get deep in December, and snow can be found up valley as late May and even June.

Starting Winter 2007/2008

Snowshoes will be available for rent for anyone staying at the Resort as soon as there is snow, or you can bring your own. We have put together great "Winter Specials" including both Snowshoeing and Nordic Skiing. These packages are available starting December 26th.

During the winter months the restaurant will run on a reduced schedule. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available Dec 26-31 and on weekends Jan 4 - March 9. The rest of the time, lunch will be served when the boat is running. Not to worry! We rent our housekeeping units during the week. All you need to do is bring your food and wine, our units are fully equipped with pots, pans, plates and most everything you'll need. Some people might find the limited restaurant hours less appealing. This actually works in your favor. Those that visit during the week will experience the peaceful winter scenes of the valley without having to share the trails. So if you’re not afraid to turn the knob on the stove, we highly suggest a weekday visit.
